Debussy was born into a modest family with very little to do with the arts however, he showed so much musical talent, he was accepted to the Paris Conservatoire at the age of 10.
Born 1862 / Died 1918
Originally a pianist, it took a while for Debussy to achieve the international success as a composer we now associate with him and it wasn’t until 1902 and with his only full length opera Pelléas et Mélisande that he became a household name.
Debussy remains a household name today and many of his best known works such as La Mer, Claire de Lune and Arabesque can often be heard in film and television.
